Hi Ian,

I really would like to have a crack at this but not a one off trip but whilst on a World Trip. Due to this I would obviously have a big backpack with me along the whole trip so would this be a problem? Where would your main luggage be kept? Would that be carried by the porters or kept somewhere at lower altitude?

Also, can you recommend a tour agency to book this trip through or did you organise all of this yourself?

Many thanks,

Hi Ian,
I've really enjoyed reading about your adventures around the Saas Fee area. We've been visiting that area now on and off for the last 10 years and love it. I had no idea I would be able to get up some of these big peaks despite having been climbing in the UK for many years. I don't think some people realise that if they are experienced in scrambling/easy rock climbing with some winter experience in the UK they could easily manage some of these peaks (with a little training maybe).
We're hoping to go back this summer after 2 weeks on Skye. Have fun on Aconcagua.

Llyn Edno was great spot -you can see a few pics on my blog -though i found a few others on my wonderings. Lighter kit is a surefire way of justifying more gear -an expensive hobby!! I'm not quite at the level of cutting labels from clothes but i know others who are!! How's the ML training going??

Thanks for the recommendation for a lightweight Thermarest, I'll definitely check it out... especially as the "I need lighter kit" argument means I can go shopping again!

How was the wild camp at Llyn Edno? Good spot?

Funny I did the same routeu up and down Moel Siabod last Sunday, albeit on a glorious sunny day and having done a wild-camp by Llyn Edno and traversed up and along to Cnicht the day/night before. I can recommend a Thermarest NeoAir as a lightweight, small packing mattress. I also took my new Laser Comp tent which dropped about 1.5kg from my previous wildcamp pack weight.

Hi Roger,

I bought insoles with another pair of boots of the same size from Snow + Rock. I forget exactly how much they were but roughly £50 for the pair as I had to have mine built up at the heel to correct my overpronation.

To get the custom insoles made you have to stand on what I can only describe as a "warm clay" that takes an imprint of your foot. From that the soles are warmed up and moulded to this shape, as I mentioned I then needed a further piece adding to the heel. So it'd be impossible to buy this type of insole online.

Thanks Ian - I take it you went for the custom insole then. Did the shop offer this? Or did you buy online?
